The Porsche 993. Buy now or forever hold your peace.
A momentary pause in the escalating 993 prices has me in contemplation mode.
In season 2 episode 5 of Tim’s Enthusiast Garage I take a look at the Porsche 911 (993). For years I have related the sentiment that I believe this to be the best of the air cooled era. The C2 , followed by the introduction of the 993 twin turbo was Porsche’s last hurrah for an aging architecture.
Everything was revamped. More swept back lights and fenders, bigger hips, everything except for that green house was edited to perfection. More power, more beauty, more grace and more pace. It all made for a compelling argument that THIS was the 911 to have in one’s collection... except... a 996 is half the price and better by nearly every metric. Heck, LESS than half the price.
So is the 993 worth the expenditure vs it’s replacement? In this episode I delve deep on the 993 and it turns out, the answer is a firm “maybe.”
